The Legacy and Future of The Western Group

The Western Group began as a family-led business driven by innovation and a commitment to excellence. Founded by Bill and Helen Piehl, the company was built to manufacture and service specialized equipment essential for the compressed gas industry. From its early days, the goal was to ensure the highest safety standards, pushing boundaries in a competitive market while staying rooted in core values. Bill Piehl’s dedication to creating robust, safe, and reliable tube trailers quickly distinguished the company, making it a leader in compressed gas transportation. That business has since expanded to five separate companies, multiple product lines, and thousands of customers across the United States.

The Western Group has evolved to meet the industry’s changing demands. Today, they support compressed gas transportation and advanced high-pressure valve systems, natural gas transportation, and hydrogen storage solutions for emerging clean energy technologies.

As the industry shifts towards higher pressure solutions and cleaner energy, Western Group remains at the forefront, developing partnerships and exploring new materials such as carbon fiber pressure vessels to reduce the weight and increase the efficiency of their trailers as well as more advanced testing services such as model acoustic emission testing.

The Western Group is committed to innovation as it approaches seven decades of service. With plans to expand the product line and explore new global markets, the team is preparing for the future of high-pressure gas solutions. Hydrogen and natural gas packaging and distribution, in particular, present exciting opportunities for growth and sustainability. The Western Group aims to be a leader in this sector, providing infrastructure solutions that support a cleaner, more efficient energy future.
